Habitat Cape Cod is committed to environmental stewardship, combining affordable
housing with eco-friendly landscaping that enhances neighborhood appearance. Through
creative partnerships with local organizations, the affiliate transforms residential yards into
low -maintenance, biodiverse spaces. These sustainable landscapes trade traditional,
resource -heavy turf lawns for a specialized low -grow grass and clover mix, integrated with
drought -tolerant native plantings. Plantings are installed during the construction process,
ensuring that the landscape is fully mature, stable, and rooted before the home is sold to
the homeowner. Because these selections thrive naturally in the Cape's sandy soil, they do
not require costly irrigation systems —which are not cost-effective for affordable housing
budgets and conflict with local municipal water bans. Ultimately, this deliberate approach
to landscaping ensures that every Habitat Cape Cod home not only provides a beautiful,
permanent visual asset to the community from day one but also respects local water
constraints and restores ecosystems without requiring ongoing irrigation.
