RE: 4 Columbus Ave Demolition Request
At a site visit on September 30, 2026, a quorum of the Yarmouth Historical Commission
(Chair Julie Mockaee, Vice Chair Bob Kelley, Commissioner Kenzie Johnson, and
Associate Commissioner Sam Lawrence) met with Joe DiSipio and Henry Arnaudo at 4
Columbus Ave, West Yarmouth. The YHC reviewed the exterior of the house to be
demolished. At the previous meeting, Mr. DiSipio received feedback that the YHC did
not like the gambrel-style that dominates the front façade of the proposed house. This
style does not fit with the architecture in the neighborhood. Mr. Arnaudo and Mr. DiSipio
said the plan has been approved by Building and Conservation so they can’t change the
footprint or the location of the house on the lot at this point. They listened to feedback
from the YHC onsite and presented an alternative design that removes the gambrel
rooflines from the house and replaces them with a more dormer style façade. The
footprint of the house would not change, and there would be only minor floor plan
adjustments required.
The YHC examined the new proposed design and agreed it was a great improvement
and is more appropriate for the neighborhood. Mr. Lawrence moved to allow the
demolition of the existing house to move forward and moved to approve the amended
plan as presented by Mr. Arnaudo and Mr. DiSipio on September 30. The motion
passed unanimously, 4-0-0. The demolition and replacement house were approved.
