From: Ellen Horgan [mailto:lnhorgan68@yahoo.mm] Sent: Monday, May 28, 2012 4:19 PM To: Selectmen Subject: Restaurant discrimination against individuals with developmental disabilities I am writing because I had an appalling experience at a Yarmouth restaurant today, and I don't know who else to approach with this issue. I work for one of the many agencies on Cape Cod that provide residenfial services to adults with developmental disabilities and a group of us went out to lunch today. Trying a new place seemed like a good idea, so we went to Four Seasons Trattoria on Route 28. There were 6 of us, two staff and four individuals. We did not even make it through the front door before one of the managers, and I believe owners, stopped the party and asked the other staff inember if he was bringing the group in to eat. The staff member asked if the restaurant was open, and the employee started making statements about prior experiences with"these groups" where they didn't like the menu and made a mess of the table. At that point,I was not going to give our money to this business regazdless of his decision to let us in the restaurant or not. Someone needs to explain that there are discrimination laws in Massachusetts that forbid restaurants from denying access due to handicap or disability. The man was not overly rude or anything, the entire discussion was at a civil tone, but the behavior is completely unacceptable. I need to be reassured that this is not standard behavior in Yannouth, as this experience has lefr a 5/29/2012 Page 2 of 2 decidedly bad taste in my mouth.
