Lawton, Jr., Town Adminstrator From: Bruce G. Murphy, MPH, Director of Health Date: June 23, 2004 Subject: Bass River Motel I have talked to both the Deputy and Police Chief regarding Bass River Motel. They both stated that this motel is currernly not one of ow problem motels. I visited the motel on Monday, June 21,2004, and spoke to the motel owner Mahendra R Bhatt, who resides on the property. He stated he has only one long term rental that will be leaving at the end of the month. He stated that he is very strict regarding rentals and in his monitoring of the motel. I informed the owner that the town's Selectmen's Office had received several complaints regarding people, possibly from his property, walking into the rear Banister Lane properties. He stated that he did not feel that they were his tenants. He showed me the six foot stockade fence that runs beside his property and the Cavalier Motel to his rear property line, and then the fence runs all the way across the rear property line to the woods. Therefore, he thought it would be difficult for people to leave his property. I informed trim that we would monitor any rentals and future complaints. Mr. Bhatt stated he was more than willing to work with the town Health and Police Departments, and that he is very careful in his screening of motel guests. The required posting of motel rules and regulations were noted. Based on the review of the file, inspection of the property, and meeting with Mr. Bhatt, a hearing is not needed at this time.
